Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) - The Rite of Spring e Petrushka

"Le Sacre du printemps (A Sagração da Primavera), com o sub-título de Quadros da Rússia pagã em duas partes, é um balé composto por Igor Stravinsky e coreografado originalmente por Vaslav Nijinsky. A concepção de cenografia e os figurinos foram de Nicholas Roerich. O balé foi produzido por Sergei Diaghilev para a sua companhia de Ballets Russes, tendo estreado no Teatro dos Campos Elísios de Paris, em 29 de maio de 1913. As inovadoras e complexas estruturas rítmicas da música, os timbres e o uso de dissonâncias fizeram dele um seminal da composição do século XX. Em 1973, o compositor e maestro Leonard Bernstein disse em uma passagem: "Esse papel tem sessenta anos de idade... Também tem as melhores dissonâncias que alguém poderia ter imaginado e as melhores assimetrias e politonalidades já feitas, seja qual for o nome que você lhe queira dar." "Petrushka é um balé burlesco em 1 ato composto de quatro cenas, cuja música foi composta pelo russo Igor Stravinsky e coreografado por Michel Fokine. Foi composto entre 1910 e 11 e revisado em 1947. Aleksandr Benois cuidou dos cenários e figurinos. Petrouchka foi montado pela primeira vez pela companhia russa de balé montada por Serguei Diaguilev em Paris, em 13 de junho de 1911. Vaslav Nijinski encarnou Petrouchka, com Tamara Karsavina como A Bailarina. Alexandre Orlov fazia o Mouro e Enrico Cecchetti O Mago. A história é sobre um fantoche tradicional russo, Petrushka, que é feito da palha e com um saco de serragem como corpo que acaba por tomar vida e ter a capacidade amar, uma história que se assemelha superficialmente àquela de Pinocchio".
